The tenant is required to pay a proportionate amount of rent that is calculated from the date of completion and extends up to the next rent collection date, unless completion takes place on the day when the rent is due.
This is applicable when the rent that is reserved by the lease is payable in advance and not in arrears. This rent amount should be shown on the completion statement supplied by the landlord. Neither the SC nor the SCPC mentions that the apportionment of rent should be shown on completion of the grant of lease. Thus, an express provision to this effect shall have to be added, unless it is dealt with in the lease itself.
